Holidays at home – Decorating tips for holiday parties at home

Ever wonder how to get the best look for your holiday party at home? Check out these five decorating tips:

1.  Coordinate with what you already have  – Design your holiday decorating with the features of your home in mind.  Decorating is meant to enhance your home!

2.  Keep it Simple  - You may be like me and love everything about the Holiday Season, but try to stick to one theme or color palate. Remember there is always next year to try a new and different décor design.

3.  Remember who you’re decorating for  - Do you have little ones at home, or some furry family members? Keep them in mind when choosing décor. Some holiday elements can be dangerous such as juniper which can be  poisonous.

4.  Ask yourself: Am I thinking traditional, eclectic, or modern for the holidays? Pick a theme and stick to it throughout your home. Maybe even incorporate your theme into holiday cards or menus.

5.  Pick one element that can be your “star” for the year -  Maybe your “star” is the accessory of classic Nutcracker statues, or maybe it is the color silver that can be woven throughout your décor, or maybe it is the rustic use of pinecones. Whatever it may be pick one element and make it shine.

Michele Butler Events Fab Five Trends for December!

December events can showcase much more than holly and mistletoe, check out these top trends!

1. Step outside of the winter flower box - instead of Amaryllis and red blooms try full white hydrangea or lovely ranunculus.  Using a winter white color palate with your floral décor will create a timeless look of sophistication. The full blooms of a white hydrangea can create stunning elegance for any centerpiece. Ranunculus offers a majestic alternative to the use of roses in any bouquet.

 2. Warm drinks for cocktails - try some Wassail, this warm winter drink tastes yummy and smells delicious!

Ingredients:

1 gallon apple cider

27 whole cloves

8 cinnamon sticks

1 quart pineapple juice

1 can (6 ounce) frozen orange juice concentrate

 Directions:

Mix all ingredients in a large Crockpot and simmer. Serve hot.

3. Play up the winter season through your cake - add some sparkle or silver dusting. Your dress and accessories aren’t the only places to add some bling! Try having your cake accented with eatable silver or sparkle dust. This is a great subtle addition for this traditional treat.

4. Embrace the season while you embrace on your honeymoon – instead of Jamaica try a log cabin in a winter wonderland. Warm destinations can be a great  change from cooler weather, but the coziness of a ski-lodge or cabin can be just  as romantic.  Check out the following locations:

The Broadmoor of Colorado Springs: http://www.broadmoor.com/  This luxurious resort offers picturesque views of mountains and a quaint little resort village perfect for shopping.

Whistler Blackcomb- http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/index.htm  Not only the site of the last winter Olympics, but also a ski playground perfect for an active honeymoon.

5. Add winter to your dress - add a bolero or stole. Embrace the cold weather and winter style, add a fabulous bolero or stole to your wedding gown for an added accessory that looks gorgeous in pictures.
